Clarence River
Named after one of the purest rivers to be found anywhere in the world, this Clarence River Sauvignon Blanc is the very expression of the variety grown on vineyards, which bask in the bright light and cool air of New Zealand's South Island. The wine is shipped to us before being bottled right here in the UK. This not only reduces the Carbon Footprint generated by transport but also retains the wine's freshness on the long journey from New Zealand.
Marlborough
Marlborough lies at the northern-most tip of New Zealand's South Island, and is the largest of the country's wine-producing regions. The local geography consists of a large, flat river valley with deep deposits of silt and gravel, however, significant variations in soil type in specific sites gives the terroir great diversity. The best sites feature shallow, stony soils with good drainage and a top layer of surface boulders which reflect the sun's rays and retain warmth during Marlborough's cool, clear summer nights.Marlborough produces wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling but is famed the world over these days for its Sauvignon Blanc, which is probably the closest thing the country has to a national wine style, with its tropical and gooseberry flavours, combined with a certain unmistakeable herbaceous pungency.
Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is a high quality white grape whose spiritual home is France, and more specifically the Loire Valley, where it produces crisp, acidic wines with green and citrus fruit flavours, and a hallmark streak of minerality in the best examples. In more recent years, the variety has been adopted by New Zealand as their signature white variety, showing concentrated gooseberry, citrus and stone fruit flavours. New Zealand Sauvignon, especially that from the Marlborough region, has become an 'instant classic' and is a must on all good wine lists and home cellars. The variety has also come to prominence in Chile and South Africa and is a key ingredient in many of the great sweet wines of the world..
